Fifty-One electronic cigarette

Posted: 10 Nov 2008 05:00 PM PST

Electronic cigarettes are nothing new, but that doesn’t mean new technology cannot be introduced into the genre to help those who want to cut down on their puffing or even quit the habit altogether. Fifty-One has released its latest electronic cigarette that could possibly help you kick the habit, assuming you’ve already tried other models in the market to no avail. What makes this version different from the rest is the ability to choose from a wide range of flavors and nicotine levels, letting you slowly but surely cut down on your daily fix until you feel that you are no longer nicotine-dependent. Let’s read more about Fifty-One’s electronic cigarette right after the jump.

For starters, the Fifty-One electronic cigarette looks and feels like the real thing, making it comfortable to use with long time and new smokers alike. It comes in two components - the first is a rechargeable battery while the other is a disposable cartridge, and inside the latter you will find the nicotine pad and atomizing mechanism. Once the disposable cartridge has outlived its usefulness, all it takes is a simple screw off action and putting on the new and you’re good to go. A major benefit of this mechanism is the atomizer is never reused, so you don’t have to worry yourself even more with other problems including nicotine residue, build-up and clogging. Users will users draw in a “vapor” that is dense enough even to be noticeable when exhaled, although it isn’t classified as smoke, making this useable even in non-smoking areas.

On the bright side, you also won’t need to fork out for tobacco excise taxes and health-impact fees when you pick up the Fifty-One electronic cigarette, and there is no risk of burning anything since no fire is involved. The starter kit will come with a couple of nicotine cartridges (available in various strengths: 8 mg., 6 mg., 4 mg. and 0 mg.), where you can choose from tobacco, menthol, chocolate, vanilla and coffee flavors.

Duracell offers Powerpack 450 with Voice

Posted: 10 Nov 2008 04:48 PM PST

Duracell is a name synonymous with long lasting batteries, and the pink bunny who keeps on drumming even until Judgment Day has been etched into our memories thanks to earlier advertising efforts a couple of decades ago. The company is still around, and they are still as reliable as ever when it comes to offering portable power solutions to the myriad of gadgets and gizmos that we now tend to carry. Their most recent release would be the Duracell Powerpack 450 with Voice, a solution that ought to be in the home of every American since recent surveys have shown that most Americans are not adequately equipped for power emergencies, be it at home or on the road.

This is no ordinary copper top battery, as the Duracell Powerpack 450 with Voice prides itself in being a durable, stand-alone power supply with 450 watts of AC household power that can be used to juice up important electronics and appliances. The voice technology found within is a first when it comes to the portable power category, and is used to “talk” to consumers on how they are supposed to make the correct use of the Powerpack’s built-in vehicle jump-start system. In addition, it will also speak out instructions on how to inflate a tire with the Powerpack’s built-in air compressor, while letting them know just how much runtime a connected device has left.

According to Rick June, Duracell vice president and general manager, “The Duracell Powerpack 450 with Voice is designed to be rugged to stand up to road trips, picnics and camping. It also provides the reassurance of a night light and a comforting voice. When you are away from home, it’s great to know you have a power backup that can also help perform the most obvious and crucial road fixes.”

Navigon 8100T Gives 3-D GPS Maps

Posted: 10 Nov 2008 11:45 AM PST

Previously, on Coolest Gadgets, we covered Navigon’s two new GPS, the 2090S and 5100 max. Navigon has recently introduced their newest Personal Navigation Device (PND) today called the Navigon 8100T.

The Navigon 8100T has a very interesting feature called the Panorama View 3D. This Panorama software uses NASA terrain data, so you will see landscapes rising and falling as you go, instead of the traditional flat map. I’m not certain how this works, but it might help to have a 3-D view of the Earth when looking ahead.

The Navigon 8100T PND also has other features including address entry via voice, text-to-speech functionality, and Bluetooth compatibility. There is also free real-time traffic for a lifetime, as well as Zagat ratings and reviews for certain Points of Interest (POIs).

Other features include Lane Assistant Pro to let you know what lane to travel in, as well as Reality View Pro for a realtime photorealistic view of more complex highway interchanges. Oh, I forgot to mention the 4.8 inch touchscreen!

So it would appear that the Navigon 8100T is one of the coolest Navigation tools out now, until holographic technology gets perfected. You should be able to pick it sometime later in November (hopefully before Black Friday) for about $599.

All Aboard the Microsoft Mobile Office Bus

Posted: 10 Nov 2008 11:00 AM PST

It appears that our old friends at Microsoft have discovered a way to take work on the way to work as Bill’s Boys have turned an ordinary bus into a mobile office.

Right now, this is being tried out in China. I’m not certain if these Chinese workers have a long commute, or if they would appreciate having working on projects as they go to and from the office.

In other words, I’m not sure a mobile office is a good idea. I imagine that if my time on the bus was over an hour, this would definitely be worth it. Anything less than fifteen minutes would not be. By the time I start some work project, I would have to wrap it up or miss my stop. However, the short time might be handy to check my email or something.

This would also be an excellent time to mention safety. Those monitors had better be screwed into the tables, and those tables had better be screwed into the frame of the bus. Otherwise, a sudden stop might cause them to fly. Hold on to your mice!

So, is what Microsoft doing in China ever going to come to America? If it does, it would be quite expensive to fit every bus with computers. Not to mention the maintenance required to keep them in operation.

So what do you think? Are you ready for a world that starts when you get on the bus? Leave a comment and let me know.

Mark III Pod gets you way into the game

Posted: 10 Nov 2008 10:20 AM PST

Sometimes, when I am playing video games, I get so into them that I completely shut off myself from the rest of the world. Fortunately, the Mark III Pod is an actual way to do the job a lot better than my mental facilities ever could.

It’s almost like those sit-down video games that were quite the kick back in the eighties are making a comeback, and taken a step further. The Mark III Pod, made by Pod Wombats, is made for PC or console gaming with a joystick, steering controller, and display inside.

It certainly looks a lot better than large cardboard box, but at least it has a “high-end, quality design”. Not only that, you can apparently customize them, even with different colors.

In all honesty, I don’t see how anyone could fit inside this fully enclosed box. It is definitely not for the claustrophobic. Don’t get me wrong, games like Fallout 3 are wonderfully immersive in this, and this Mark III Pod could augment your experience. However, do you really want to be in there for hours at a time? If you find that you want to install a toilet in the seat of the Mark III Pod, seek help.

Well, this is how you want to get your head (and the rest of your body) into the game, feel free to take a visit to the Pod Wombats site and lay down $2,500. Is it too high a price to pay for a better video game experience? Leave me a comment and let me know.

Target Gift Cards get into the digital picture for the holidays

Posted: 10 Nov 2008 10:10 AM PST

Target is known for its colorful and interesting gift cards. And whn you consider the logo is a set of circles, who can blame the company for trying to spice up their gift cards with strange and innovative designs? This holiday, Target is going beyond strange with a gift card that doubles as a digital camera. You read that right. A gift card that gift givers can take pictures with.

The gift card which comes in increments from $50 to $1,000 is actually a digital camera that comes with 8MB on board memory to store about 50 images from the 1.2 megapixel chip (which means you won’t get anything above a snapshot before it degrades terribly - but hey, it’s still cool).

In addition, the camera comes with a USB cord, driver disk, instruction manual and a voucher for 40 free prints from the Target photo center. The camera runs on two AAA batteries an also has a self timer. And like standard gift cards, the Target Gift Cards have no fees, they don’t expire, and they can be reloaded in value to be used again.

So, not only can you give your loved one $50 of any Target merchandise they want, but you can record their glee right on the spot!

The Itsy Bitsy Spider Cleaner

Posted: 10 Nov 2008 10:00 AM PST

Spiders are typically thought of as disgusting little creatures and not exactly something you associate with cleaning. The creepy little crawlies make their icky webs in the corners of every room and usually at spots it’s almost impossible to reach. Therefore a spider created to clean the screen of your monitor just seems a bit odd. However, it is a spider with a heart, so I’m sure that makes up for it completely. A little painted on heart definitely takes away from the whole creepy factor.

The spider’s belly is the cleaning part, just swipe him across your screen and it will be shiny and clean once again. If your dirty screen has made the spider’s belly a little too dirty then you can easily clean him by placing some tape on it and peeling it off again. It will pull off all the dust and dirt to make sure your spider stays clean for quite some time. You can pick him up on Uncommon Goods for $10. Which isn’t a bad price, even if it is a disgusting little spider.

The Voice Activated R2-D2

Posted: 10 Nov 2008 08:00 AM PST

Hammacher Schlemmer have always been an authority figure on oddball gadgets, well now they’ve got one more to add to your collection. This 15” tall R2 is voice activated and will respond to all kinds of voice commands. Actually he responds to over forty different voice commands, which is tragically a much larger amount than my supposedly smart dog. I wonder if I could swap them R2 for a tubby little pug, at least the bot would make far less of a mess. R2 can even be set to a motion sensor so that he sounds an alarm when he senses movement. My dog just licks the intruder to death, at least R2 would startle them.

R2 also can follow you around and swivel his head around. He can mimic happy and sad sounds and even has an occasional “bad mood” which can be remedied with an “R2 behave yourself.” He can also replay sounds and dialog from Star Wars. He’s also a dancer, he dances along with the cantina music. If you’re worried about a troubling question just ask R2 and he can answer with a yes or no. To pick one up it will cost you $169.95.

Etre Touchy gloves

Posted: 10 Nov 2008 04:30 AM PST

Winter is upon us, and chances are many among us will be out wearing gloves to keep our precious digits nice and warm. Unfortunately, gloved hands don’t work too well with a touch screen device, especially all you iPhone-toting folks. I guess this is why a stylus is included with most touch screen gadgets, but for those who want the best of both worlds, there is always the Etre Touchy gloves which offer a practical way to keep your hands warm without sacrificing on functionality where your touch screen device is concerned. All digits are covered save for the thumb and index fingertips, giving you the ability to touch, tap, stroke, slide and pinch your devices’ controls in any way you desire. They retail for £14.99 a pair.
