The iPod Nano 3G TV

Posted: 09 Nov 2008 10:00 AM PST

I’ve never really used my iPod to watch a ton of videos, especially not within my house. However, not everyone spends as much of their time at their computer as I tend to. If you have an area of the house you’d like to more comfortably watch videos on your Nano, this little TV would definitely help you out. It’d be great for hiding out in the garage or a small closet when your in-laws are in town. It looks like the classic TV/VCR combination, but it actually plays videos directly from your Nano.

It does this by magnifying the screen on your Nano by up to 2.8in. Then it plays the sound through the TV speakers. Which also means you could hear your music without having to keep your headphones on the whole time. The TV sadly only works for those with 3rd generation Nanos, so the newer Nanos are out of luck. However, for those with the 3rd gens you can pick this up for pretty cheap. It’s being sold for £14.99 or about $23.

The Pro-Idee Upper Body Tanner

Posted: 09 Nov 2008 09:10 AM PST

If you don’t like sporting the pasty white look all through winter, you might check out this facial tanner. Although it is entirely possible to cross the line and give yourself an excessively tan face and still have a pale body, there are ways to make this look a lot more natural. Like you could turn it on just long enough to give yourself a little bit of color in your cheeks. This lamp also claims to be safer than the usual tanning beds. However, I’m sure it does have still at least slight risks. Luckily, it does have a timer to help try to prevent you walking around with an Oompa Loompa face.

The solarium works faster than sitting in the sun, and you can sit in front of it for up to 30 minutes at a time. It features a 400W halogen lamp and has a special filter only tanning UVA will reach your skin. The facial tanner comes with two sets of protective eye shades and a 3-year Pro-Idee guarantee. It’s portable with a handle on the top and only weighs about 12lbs. You can pick it up for £ 175 or about $274.

Tomy Xiao TIP-521 digital camera prints as well

Posted: 09 Nov 2008 04:30 AM PST

What is the normal process that you take when it comes to developing pictures? Normally, we will download all our photos from the digital camera to the computer, browse through the whole bunch and select what we like, sending them to the printers so that they will be able to give us real prints for posterity. You could call Tomy’s Xiao TIP-521 digital camera a Polaroid of the 21st century - this digital camera comes integrated with a printer, allowing you to print out captured shots instantly if you’re pleased with it. What makes this all the more remarkable is the printing is done without ink, as it relies on patented ZINK paper instead which features an advanced composite material with embedded yellow, magenta and cyan dye crystals. Heat is used to activate and colorize these crystals, hence the inkless format. This 5 megapixel shooter comes with a 2.48″ LCD display and an SD/SDHC memory card slot. It will retail for approximately $357 when released this November 28th.

Sony Ericsson rolls out MBS-900 Wireless Home Audio System

Posted: 09 Nov 2008 04:00 AM PST

We all know that Logitech does have some pretty decent speakers for the home, and these offer a great deal of bang for your shrinking buck. What about Sony Ericsson? They’re more well known for their line of Cybershot and Walkman range of handsets, and to see them release the MBS-900 Wireless Home Audio System is refreshing, as it shows the company is willing to step out of its comfort zone to offer something new and different to the masses. First of all, the MBS-900 speaker works wirelessly thanks to Bluetooth connectivity, and comes in a really stunning and innovative design that is sure to set tongues wagging whenever somebody steps into your home and lay their eyes on it for the first time.

The high quality, dual speaker and sub-woofer system is touted to offer great audio, but seriously - it won’t replace a dedicated home theater system anytime soon, but will definitely beat your regular headphones or small time speakers into submission. Of course, the audio quality of the song also depends on what kind of encoding you use, so don’t go blaming the MBS-900 if the original file itself sounds like crap. You can adjust the music settings of the MBS-900 via your cell phone (of course Sony Ericsson will claim it is best used with their handsets, but generally, any MP3-playing, Bluetooth-enabled handset will do just fine). For those who prefer the sense of touch, there is the presence of touch controls on the speaker itself for seamless and smooth control. Whenever your phone rings when you’re streaming audio to it, the MBS-900 will cleverly shut itself up so that you can carry on speaking in peace. Once you’ve run out of MP3s to listen to, there is always the built-in FM radio for you to tune in to the latest antics of your local DJs.

There is no word on how much the MBS-900 will cost, but it will hit the markets in Q1 next year.

Sony Ericsson releases W705 Walkman phone

Posted: 08 Nov 2008 08:30 PM PST

Sony Ericsson is a name synonymous with cell phones, so it is no surprise to see them release yet another handset that falls under the Walkman category - the W705. What new things do the W705 Walkman phone offer? Well, the W705 comes feature packed with the latest technology and functions, ensuring you will be able to enjoy your favorite musical tracks no matter where you are in its optimal tunes, as long as there is some juice left in the W705’s battery, of course. Let us take a closer look at the Sony Ericsson W705’s features right after the jump to see if it warrants a purchase from you in case you are currently shopping for a phone.

The W750 Walkman might come in a smaller numerical denomination compared to the W980 Walkman handset, but it is similar where superior sound quality is concerned with the latter, which means you will probably find a “best audio experience” rating should TESTfactory in Germany conduct a trial with the W705. Other popular Walkman features found on the W705 include the music recognition application TrackID, SensMe, for matching your mood to the music and Shake control to change tracks with the flick of your hand.

Since music is not the only form of entertainment, the Sony Ericsson W705 also offers the PlayNow arena which provides a full range of mobile entertainment, ranging from unique themes and wallpapers, ring tones, a host of free content and DRM-free music tracks and TrackID charts from around the world. It comes encased in an exclusive metal finish, while the generous display makes it easy to convey the necessary information to the user. Other features include Wi-Fi connectivity, a 2.4″ display, automatic rotation from landscape to portrait and vice versa, Google Maps for Mobile to help you find your way around, Bluetooth support, an integrated FM radio, and a 3.2 megapixel camera.

Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q708 and X305-Q706 notebooks

Posted: 08 Nov 2008 08:00 PM PST

Toshiba is at the forefront of notebook technology yet again, and this time round they will tease us with the Qosmio X305-Q708 and X305-Q706 notebooks. What makes these notebooks so special and different from the rest that they need some kind of special treatment? Well, for starters, both notebooks are powerful gaming machines that not only feature NVIDIA’s latest integrated (yet powerful) GeForce 9400M graphics processing unit, it is also assisted by not one, but TWO(!) NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS enthusiast-class GPUs. This brings the grand total of graphical processing units in a notebook to a whopping three - offering users a toss up between maximum performance and quiet operation in a single device.

The unique design featuring three NVIDIA GPUs enables the Qosmio X305-Q708 and X305-Q706 laptops to deliver scorching gaming performance by combining the horsepower of two discrete GeForce 9800M GTS GPUs with NVIDIA SLI technology, and allows the option of switching to a quiet operation mode with NVIDIA Hybrid SLI technology. In Hybrid SLI operation, the powerful 9800M GTS GPUs are powered down and graphics operation is transferred to the GeForce 9400M GPU. As a result, Toshiba Qosmio laptops are able to deliver record-breaking gaming performance at high resolutions, while enabling a quiet state when powering other types of Windows Vista applications.

According to Carl Pinto, vice president of product development, digital products division for Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., “We wanted to deliver an extreme-performance gaming machine that gives gamers a complete, non-compromising system in a laptop form factor. The combination of the NVIDIA GPUs and chipset allowed us to achieve a high level of performance, quality and flexibility that our customers are asking for, at a competitive starting price of $1,999.”

At least you don’t have to look out for a power outlet always with either Qosmio, since you can always switch to the power saving mode by employing the integrated graphics chipset first, before calling upon superior graphical firepower of an SLI setup once the clock passes 5pm in the office.

Cables Unlimited announce Wireless USB Adapter Set

Posted: 08 Nov 2008 07:38 PM PST

Cables Unlimited has recently announced the availability of its Wireless USB Adapter Set, which is obviously known as the Cables Unlimited Wireless USB Adapter Set. Inside, you will find Wisair’s single-chip, offering users with the option to enable USB devices to work in tandem with Wireless USB. The kit can be purchased via multiple online retailers such as Amazon.com, Buy.com, TigerDirect.com, Staples.com, and retailers Fry’s Electronics and CompUSA among others. Nice to know that even USB connectivity is taking the wireless route, although the reliability and speed might not be as consistent as that of a wired connection. With so many wireless standard being bandied around, hopefully our myriad of devices won’t get too confused. I’m all in favor of anything that does away with cables – what about you?

This new adapter set comprise of a pair of Wireless USB dongles, where one is meant to connect to the notebook or PC, while the other is attached to a device. As for the device-side adapter, this allows you to easily move current USB peripherals including an external hard drive, printers, digital still cameras, camcorder cradles, and CD/DVD writers up to thirty feet away. Imagine having a whole cupboard that houses your bunch of USB devices, all communicating with your notebook or PC wirelessly! One main drawback that I can see from this - many USB devices do require some sort of external power supply to function, such as portable hard drives, so making it wireless will be impossible unless you have a power adapter connected, which means your device is still tethered in some way or another.

You can even turn your current USB hub into a wireless version simply by attaching the device side connector to it. You can pick up the Cables Unlimited Wireless USB Adapter Set for anywhere from $79 to $99, depending on which retailer you look to.
