Motorola MOTOZINE ZN5 hits the US

Posted: 03 Nov 2008 03:33 PM PST

Do you fancy a new phone? If you do and Motorola is your favorite brand, ever considered the new MOTOZINE ZN5 which is now available exclusively from T-Mobile? This is the first camera-centric cell phone from Motorola that was created in close collaboration with Kidak, bringing together a high quality handset and camera experience to help you capture those precious moments no matter where you are even without a dedicated digital camera at your disposal. More features and specifications of the MOTOZINE ZN5 will be discussed right after the jump.

The MOTOZINE ZN5 holds the distinction of being the first cell phone to combine Motorola’s ModeShift technology and KODAK Imaging Technology. With a dedicated simple share key, you will be able to instantly share captured images with family and friends no matter where you are via a variety of ways, including picture messaging, T-Mobile MyAlbum, Kodak Gallery and compatible Bluetooth enabled printers.

Those who pick up the MOTOZINE ZN5 will find that its image capture capability is pretty robust, and with a high-resolution display, you won’t have any trouble previewing all the images captured in full detail. Boasting one of the fastest click-to-click times available, all it takes to transform the phone to its camera function is to slide open its lens cover, unleashing the power of a 5 megapixel camera right smack in the palm of your hands. Features include a shutter button, flash and viewer, auto focus, a Xenon flash, and a microSD memory card slot (with a complimentary 1GB microSD memory card to get you started).

Of course, the MOTOZINE ZN5 isn’t just meant for capturing images, but it does the phone bit pretty well too with Motorola’s own patented CrystalTalk technology that offers crystal clear conversations even in the noisiest of environments. Connectivity features include GSM, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and you will be able to remain connected to the rest of the world via services like SMS, MMS, IM and e-mail.

Samsung Window display

Posted: 03 Nov 2008 10:46 AM PST

At FPD International 2008, Samsung proudly put this window on display. This particular one, appropriately called the “Window Display” is made of 12.1 inch OLED panels that are translucent.

It is translucent in the sense that there is some light that can pass through. It exhibits 30 percent transmittance, and the resolution is at 840 x 504 pixels.

I’m not certain if there is any practical application for this technology, unless you want all your window panes to be television screens. Even though that might sound like a whole lot of fun, there might be a better use of this window pane tech other than making your house like the future McFlys in Back to the Future II. Just imagine windows that can automatically be dimmed to save energy on heating and cooling.

Perhaps we could put this glass on shops, in order to advertise products. Yeah, like we really need more of that. Will all big cities now have OLED screens wherever glass is found? I’m not looking forward to cities of the future looking like something out of Blade Runner.

However, I think we all know that this type of technology is our future. Right now, this is just a concept from electronics giant Samsung, with no word as far as when it will be available to the general public.

Victor Multi-Kill is definitely a better mousetrap

Posted: 03 Nov 2008 10:13 AM PST

Sure, a lot of homeowners have problems with mice. No one likes to pry the little critters off of glue traps, or cleaning up their bloody carcasses from the snapping traps.

There’s a new product called the Victor Multi-Kill trap that allows for an easier way to kill tiny mice pests with minimal mess. These better mousetraps allow the mice to be killed with a high-voltage electric shock guaranteed to bring a mouse out of the world of the living in less than five seconds.

The company who makes the Multi-Kill claims this device can remove a household’s rodent problem in one single night. As far as the fried bodies of the mice are concerned, they get dumped into a collection box for easy disposal. The company calls this feature the Shock N’Drop Chamber.

The Multi-Kill can wipe out 10 mice without resetting. It is battery powered with 4C batteries, and it can kill 150 mice per set. There is a blinking red light for a low battery, and a blinking green light that flashes for seven days to indicate a mouse has been snuffed.

You can get the Victor Multi-Kill Electronic Mouse Trap right off the company site for a slashed price of $99.99.

Wooden Mouse from Actbrise Electronics

Posted: 03 Nov 2008 09:40 AM PST

So what is this sphere that we see here, some new ball for croquet? No, what you are seeing here is a mouse for the computer, and yes, it is made of wood.

This is the Jupiter Mouse, created by a company called Actbrise Electronics. You can clearly see the four buttons on the mouse, and it is not exactly designed to roll around on the side of the desk.

I have included a YouTube video so you can see it in action. The Jupiter mouse works on a gesture-based motion. Essentially, you roll it in a certain direction, and the cursor moves. As you can see on the video, the ball-shaped mouse comes in handy for 3-D graphics.

The Jupiter mouse is made from wood from a Chinese flowering ash tree. I’m not certain if other types of wood could be used to make wooden mice, but I’m not certain if it would create a greener world if it could. Sure, mice made of plastic don’t exactly help the environment, but I could see entire forests being leveled for the sake of some wooden mice.

Of course, this Jupiter Mouse is somewhat expensive at about $232. For a price like that, I’m just going to spend under $30 for a plastic one.

The Rolling Razor adds even more blades

Posted: 03 Nov 2008 09:00 AM PST

Were you starting to think they’d finally reached the maximum amount of blades they could fit into one razor? Afraid not, they can still find ways to give themselves an edge over the competition. They are adding a whole new set of blades to the handle. Making the blade a little easier to use for those up and down motions. Although all together it only has six blades, I’m sure someone will pick up on the new spin on razors and add another four or five.

These come in both girl and guy models, and within each there are several color options. The women’s of course has pink. It claims a faster shave and flows more naturally. Whether or not that’s the case is fully debatable though. It also has the usual feature like easy cartridge replacement and rubber grips to make sure it doesn’t slip out of your hand in the shower. If the trend keeps going as is, they’re just going to keep adding more razors till we have a giant glove that we just rub across the area with twenty different blades. The razor itself is $14.95 and refills $7.95 for a pack of four.

The Remote Light Switch

Posted: 03 Nov 2008 07:00 AM PST

We’ve all seen the numerous clapper commercials. Most are a bit on the nauseating side, yet it’s such a convenient little gadget. However, there are other options besides the infamous clapper. You can have a special switch installed with a remote, but sadly that does take effort and someone who knows a bit about wiring. Well now one store is selling an odd new remote that will stand out from the crowd. It’s sure to cause a stir with any guests that spot the stylish remote.

The switch plate can be purchased in either 14k gold or in limited edition chrome. Surrounding that switch plate is a Lucite box with a magnetized lid. Making the switch look almost as tempting as a giant red button that says “do not touch.” On the bottom is a metal plate with the designer’s name, Tobias Wong written on it as well as his signature. To get it to work you just attach the remote component to the fixture. It has a range of 100 feet, you can purchase it in chrome for $150 and the 14k gold for $250.
